Conservation
Biodiversity, habitat restoration, pest management, and the living world
Conservation is about protecting and restoring the natural systems that sustain us. It is DOC rangers managing native forest, community groups controlling possums and rats, iwi restoring mahinga kai, scientists monitoring endangered species, and everyone working to keep Aotearoa's unique ecosystems alive. If you care about biodiversity, habitat, native species, or the health of our natural world, Conservation is your guild.

Why it matters
Conservation decisions shape the future of our natural world. A new pest control programme might save an endangered bird. A plan change might protect a wetland or open it to development. A species listing might change hunting regulations. Funding for conservation work rises and falls. Nemo watches the conservation system so that communities can participate in protecting what matters.

Why Ecology Green Colour?
The Conservation Guild uses Ecology Green (#388160) from the Vegetation & ecology family of the DR GIS Colour Scheme. Our colours follow Nelson's "looks like the thing" principle - every colour must survive the question "does this look like what it represents?"
Protect the living world. Restore what has been lost.
